Nordstrom's 2018 Anniversary sale is nearly over, but I purchased an unexpected petite-friendly accessory that's worth checking out even after the NSale is done. Instead of getting an item from Nordstrom's treasure trove of small size shoes and petite clothing, I decided to go with something different this year... a backpack!
I've actually been eyeing this bag for several months, and the price reduction during the sale was enough to make me finally scoop it up. I'm sure glad I did! I specifically wanted a bag to use as a plane carry-on or for long weekend trips. It had to be big enough to fit about three days of clothing, shoes, makeup, and entertainment, plus not overwhelm my 4"11 inch height.
I also wanted the backpack to be stylish. I love taking short trips to save on travel expenses but splurging on nice accommodations. It always feels a little awkward to rock up to a fancy hotel carting a giant polyester 7-pocket backpack I've had since high school. An out of proportion and young-looking bag will certainly not help if people already tend to think you are a kid. Enter this Marc Jacobs nylon 3-compartment pack!
It's so streamlined, chic, and cleanly designed. The black and silver makes it look expensive, while the nylon material will be easy to wipe clean. There's one main compartment, with no dividers inside of it, plus two front pockets. The higher front pocket goes all the way from there to the bottom of the bag and can easily fit a Kindle/e-reader. The smaller low pocket is ideal for headphones, chapstick, and other small bits.
This may not be the bag for you if you like lots of pockets and side compartments for a water bottle. As a petite, I actually quite like the lack of excess pockets. The simple style means I can carry a bag big enough for packing all my travel needs without it looking too busy on my frame. Here's a 13" Macbook inside for size comparison:
I can't comment on the quality of the materials as this backpack is brand new to me, but I'm super excited to have added this Marc Jacobs bag to my wardrobe. Having a proportional and stylish designer bag is one way to look older, and the simple design keeps it spacious yet petite-friendly. I'm prepared for the next time I take a small trip!
It's also available in blue and gold, or as a mini size if you are looking for a smaller day pack:
