I first noticed XXS sizes popping up on Modcloth's website about a year and a half ago. I don't order from them too often as I find most of their whimsical styles are cute but look a little too young on me, and their XS and S sizes are typically too big. However, this plaid dress ticked all the boxes for me! I loved how it was mostly monochromatic while still working in a pattern on the upper half, the shape nipped in at the waist, and it looked quite short on the model in the product photos. Add in that it was available in XXS, and I decided to give it a try.
It turns out that I love the fit of this XXS dress! The shoulder width, sleeve shape, cut of the neckline, width of the torso, where the waist hit, and the overall length of the dress are exactly what I wanted. Modcloth lists the small size as 34 inches in length. I measured my XXS at 32 inches from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the skirt when laid down flat, which means it actually hit above my knees!
I'm wearing it with black leggings and boots for the chillier weather, but I also think it will look great by itself in the warmer months with simple black or tan sandals. Modcloth makes a black and red plaid version of the dress too, which could be nice for next fall/winter.
I'm happy that Modcloth is starting to carry more XXS sizes! It can be a bit hard to find them on the website, though; after selecting their dress section, for example, the XXS filter option is grayed out and unclickable. I first need to choose the "extended sizes" filter (which leads to modcloth.com/shop/plus-size-dresses) before the XXS filter option becomes available. It feels like smaller sizes are still an afterthought at Modcloth, but with a great find like this plaid dress, I am hopeful they'll continue to add new styles that work for petite ladies.
